To the Jewish Museum Community
October 12, 2023
Dear Jewish Museum Community,
Over the past several days, we have watched with grief and horror the acts of terror inflicted by Hamas targeting innocent people in Israel. We condemn these atrocities, for which there is no justification. These recent events in Israel have sent shockwaves not only throughout our community, but worldwide. We must all stand together in denouncing unequivocally the hatred, violence, and discrimination that characterizes them. Many in our community have deep ties to Israel and are experiencing intense feelings of loss, despair, and fear. Our hearts are with families and friends who are suffering right now.
As an art museum dedicated to illuminating the complexity and vibrancy of Jewish culture, we seek to provide a space for respite, reflection, and community. In the Museum’s exhibition galleries, we bring forward the unique stories of resilience that have shaped Jewish experience across time and space. Connecting with these powerful, enduring histories has never been more urgent. We are open and our programming will continue as planned and we will be here for our members and for our visitors.
We hope you will visit the Jewish Museum soon and take comfort in the beauty, solace, and hope that you can experience here.
